AREAS AFFECTED: Eastern Sierra Slopes of Inyo County; Owens Valley
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Southwest winds 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph. * WHERE...Eastern Sierra Slopes and Owens Valley. * WHEN...Until 11 PM PDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely window for gusty downslope winds to impact Highway 395 in the northern half of the Owens Valley (north of Lone Pine) is until 11:00 pm this evening. South of Lone Pine, CA the window for downslope winds will be through 5:00 am PDT Monday morning.
INSTRUCTION: Watch for falling debris, tree limbs and downed power lines or poles. Use extra caution if you must drive.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.

Cirrostratus clouds are high, thin clouds that form above
20,000 feet and are made mostly of ice crystals. They sometimes look like giant
feathers, horse tails, or curls of hair in the sky.
These clouds are pushed by the jet stream and can move at high speeds reaching
100 mph.
What do they indicate?
They indicate that a precipitation is likely within 24 hours.
