DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 95 to 102 degrees, Moderate to Major Heat Risk values, and Wet Bulb Globe Temperature values of 83 to 86 degrees expected. * WHERE...In Minnesota, Crow Wing, Aitkin, Pine, Koochiching, Cass, Itasca, Carlton, St. Louis Counties. In Wisconsin, Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Sawyer, and Washburn Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Red Cliff Band, the St. Croix Band in Burnett County, the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, the Fond du Lac Band, the Bad River Reservation, the Mille Lacs Band, Big Sandy Lake, Hinckley, Lena Lake and, East Lake areas and the Bois Forte Band, Nett Lake, Lake Vermilion and, Deer Creek areas. Other locations including the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Voyageurs National Park and Madeline Island. A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
