DESCRIPTION: FFWAKQ The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... The City of Chesapeake in southeastern Virginia... The City of Virginia Beach in southeastern Virginia... * Until 530 PM EDT. * At 231 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Virginia Beach, Great Bridge, Regent University, Kempsville, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Fentress, Princess Anne, Northwest, Mount Pleasant, Greenbrier, Hickory, Gallups Corner, Herberts Corner, Princess Anne Plaza, Pungo, Chesapeake Airport, London Bridge, Oceana NAS and Bayside.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.

Cirrostratus clouds are high, thin clouds that form above
20,000 feet and are made mostly of ice crystals. They sometimes look like giant
feathers, horse tails, or curls of hair in the sky.
These clouds are pushed by the jet stream and can move at high speeds reaching
100 mph.
