Flash Flood Warning issued August 22 at 2:58PM MST until August 22 at 6:00PM MST by NWS Flagstaff AZ
AREAS AFFECTED: Coconino, AZ
DESCRIPTION: At 258 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms have diminished over the Dragon Bravo Fire Scar. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain fell earlier this afternoon, with only light rain continuing. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flow moving through the Crystal Creek and Tuna Creek drainages toward the Colorado River. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding in and around the Dragon Bravo Fire Scar. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of areas in and around the Dragon Bravo Fire Scar. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Grand Canyon National Park. This includes the Colorado River between river miles 93 and 101. This includes the following creeks, washes and rivers... Tuna Creek, Colorado River, Hermit Creek, Agate Canyon, Salt Creek, Travertine Canyon, Slate Creek, Boucher Creek, Crystal Creek, Shinumo Creek, Trinity Creek, Monument Creek and 94-Mile Creek.
INSTRUCTION: This is a life threatening situation. Heavy rainfall will cause extensive and severe flash flooding of creeks...streams...and ditches in the Dragon Bravo Fire Scar. Severe debris flows can also be anticipated across roads. Roads may be washed away in places. If you encounter flood waters...climb to safety.

A wall cloud forms underneath the base of a cumulonimbus cloud,
and can be a hotbed for deadly tornadoes.
Wall clouds are formed by air flowing into the cumulonimbus clouds, which can
result in the wall cloud descending from the base of the cumulonimbus cloud, or
rising fractus clouds which join to the base of the storm cloud as the wall cloud
takes shape.
Wall clouds can be very large, and in the Northern Hemisphere they generally
form at the southern edge of cumulonimbus clouds.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.
