AREAS AFFECTED: Northern Wasatch Front; Salt Lake Valley; Wasatch Mountains I-80 North
DESCRIPTION: At 751 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Kearns, or over West Valley City, moving north at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Murray, Bountiful, West Jordan, Taylorsville, Midvale, South Salt Lake, North Salt Lake, Centerville, Woods Cross, West Bountiful, Kearns, Salt Lake City International Airport, Oquirrh, Millcreek, Sugarhouse, and University Of Utah.
INSTRUCTION: If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM MDT for northern Utah.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.

Cirrostratus clouds are high, thin clouds that form above
20,000 feet and are made mostly of ice crystals. They sometimes look like giant
feathers, horse tails, or curls of hair in the sky.
These clouds are pushed by the jet stream and can move at high speeds reaching
100 mph.
