Flash Flood Warning issued June 15 at 4:39PM EDT until June 15 at 9:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA
AREAS AFFECTED: Botetourt, VA; Rockbridge, VA
DESCRIPTION: At 439 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated the heavy rain producing thunderstorms which prompted the warning have exited the area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly as water from the earlier rain collects in streams and other low-lying areas. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Goshen... Collierstown... Rockbridge Baths... Natural Bridge... Brownsburg... This includes the following streams and drainages... Blue Suck Branch, Allen Creek, Calfpasture River, Broad Creek, Alum Creek, Big Hollow Branch, Buffalo Creek, Cabin Creek, Alone Mill Creek and Back Creek.
INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Condensation is the process which creates clouds, and therefore
it is a crucial process in the water cycle.
Condensation is the change of matter from a state of gas into a state of liquid,
and it happens because water molecules release heat into the atmosphere and
become organized into a more closely packed structure, what we might see as
water droplets.
Water is always present in the air around us as a vapor, but it's too small for
us to see. When water undergoes the process of condensation it becomes organized
into visible water droplets. You've probably seen condensation happen before on the
surface of a cold drink!

The final form taken by a growing cumulus cloud is the
cumulonimbus cloud, which is very tall and dense.
The tower of a cumulonimbus cloud can soar 23 km into the atmosphere, although
most commonly they stop growing at an altitude of 6 km.
Even small cumulonimbus clouds appear very large in comparison to other cloud types.
They can signal the approach of stormy weather, such as thunderstorms or blizzards.
