AREAS AFFECTED: Upper Snake River Valley/Idaho Falls BLM; Caribou Range/Caribou NF; Middle Snake River Valley/Twin Falls BLM north of the Snake River; Goose Creek and Raft River Valley/Southern Sawtooth NF/Twin Falls BLM south of the Snake River
DESCRIPTION: * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 410 Upper Snake River Valley/Idaho Falls BLM, Fire Weather Zone 413 Caribou Range/Caribou NF, Fire Weather Zone 425 Middle Snake River Valley/Twin Falls BLM north of the Snake River and Fire Weather Zone 427 Goose Creek and Raft River Valley/Southern Sawtooth NF/Twin Falls BLM south of the Snake River. * WINDS...West/southwest 10 to 25 mph with gusts of 25 to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10 percent. * THUNDERSTORMS...15 to 25 percent coverage in the mountains. * OUTFLOW WINDS...A dry low level environment will promote stronger storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph. * IMPACTS...Critical fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon and evening. Lightning may generate new fire starts. Any new fire starts or existing fires may spread rapidly.
INSTRUCTION: A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly based on these criteria for Southeastern Idaho: - Relative humidity at or below 15 percent and wind gusts of at least 25 mph in the mountains, or 30 mph in the Snake Plain. - Thunderstorm coverage of 25 percent, without specific rainfall criteria. - Other high impact events deemed critical by the National Weather Service and area fire management agencies.

A wall cloud forms underneath the base of a cumulonimbus cloud,
and can be a hotbed for deadly tornadoes.
Wall clouds are formed by air flowing into the cumulonimbus clouds, which can
result in the wall cloud descending from the base of the cumulonimbus cloud, or
rising fractus clouds which join to the base of the storm cloud as the wall cloud
takes shape.
Wall clouds can be very large, and in the Northern Hemisphere they generally
form at the southern edge of cumulonimbus clouds.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.
