DESCRIPTION: The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has issued an Air Quality Alert for Sunday July 13 and Monday July 14, for elevated levels of fine particulates (PM2.5). Pollutants are expected to be in the Unhealthy (Red AQI) to USG (Orange AQI) range. The alert is in effect for the following Michigan Counties, Keweenaw, Menominee, Dickinson, Iron, Marquette, Baraga, Northern Houghton, Southern Schoolcraft, Ontonagon, Delta, Gogebic, Luce, Alger, Northern Schoolcraft, and Southern Houghton. It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory diseases such as asthma. Monitor for symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in nose, throat, and eyes. Reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices. Keep windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting indoors and, if possible, run central air conditioning with MERV-13 or higher rated filters. Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.

Cirrostratus clouds are high, thin clouds that form above
20,000 feet and are made mostly of ice crystals. They sometimes look like giant
feathers, horse tails, or curls of hair in the sky.
These clouds are pushed by the jet stream and can move at high speeds reaching
100 mph.

They indicate that a precipitation is likely within 24 hours.
