DESCRIPTION: ...PROLONGED PERIOD OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS SUNDAY THROUGH MID NEXT WEEK... ...EXTREME FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS POSSIBLE TUESDAY... .Recent dry conditions combining with above normal temperatures and pockets of gusty winds will bring potentially critical fire weather conditions Sunday and Monday to parts of the eastern Colorado Plains. Strong west winds are expected to develop Tuesday, possibly producing extreme fire weather conditions with widespread strong and gusty winds to 60 mph. ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE SOUTHERN FRONT RANGE FOOTHILLS, PALMER DIVIDE...DENVER METRO...AND ADJACENT PLAINS... * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 216, 240, 241, 244, 245 and 247. * TIMING...For the first Fire Weather Watch, from Monday morning through Monday afternoon. For the second Fire Weather Watch, from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. * WINDS...Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph on Monday. On Tuesday, west winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts around 60 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10 percent. * IMPACTS...Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Graupel is a form of precipitation that is created by atmospheric conditions which cause supercooled water droplets to contact snow crystals and freeze to their surface.

Sometimes known as soft hail or snow pellets, graupel is delicate and easily destroyed by touch. Whereas hail usually falls during severe weather, graupel doesn't require such conditions to form, and can form in mild precipitation similar to situations which produce snowfall.

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.

When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific to any geographic area.

Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole, skypunch, and cloud hole.
