DESCRIPTION: ...The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Texas... Sabine River Near Gladewater affecting Upshur, Gregg and Smith Counties. For the Sabine River...including Gladewater...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Sabine River near Gladewater. * WHEN...From Friday morning until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 26.0 feet, Expect minor lowland flooding with camps and picnic areas near the river suffering some flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 8:15 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 19.9 feet. - Bankfull stage is 25.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage Friday morning and continue rising to a crest of 27.2 feet Saturday evening. - Flood stage is 26.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 27.2 feet on 03/17/1937. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

INSTRUCTION: Do not drive cars through flooded areas. Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Freezing rain is a condition where precipitation which has fallen in the form of water droplets reaches temperatures which are below freezing and freezes upon coming into contact with surface objects. The result of this precipitation is a glaze of ice which can be damaging to plants and man-made structures. A severe onset of freezing rain which results in a very thick glaze of ice is known as an ice storm.

Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind. As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.

Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, aircrafts, and man-made structures, despite the fact that the duration is usually less than ten minutes.
