DESCRIPTION: ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM CDT FRIDAY... * WHAT...For the Winter Weather Advisory, snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches tonight into Friday morning. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy snow likely. Total snow accumulations in excess of 8" likely this weekend. Localized totals will exceed 12". Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Rusk County. * WHEN...For the Winter Weather Advisory, until 10 AM CDT Friday. For the Winter Storm Watch, from Saturday evening through Monday morning. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
