AREAS AFFECTED: Larimer and Boulder Counties Between 6000 and 9000 Feet; Jefferson and West Douglas Counties Above 6000 Feet/Gilpin/Clear Creek/Northeast Park Counties Below 9000 Feet; Boulder And Jefferson Counties Below 6000 Feet/West Broomfield County; North Douglas County Below 6000 Feet/Denver/West Adams and Arapahoe Counties/East Broomfield County; Elbert/Central and East Douglas Counties Above 6000 Feet; Central and South Weld County; Central and East Adams and Arapahoe Counties
DESCRIPTION: At 157 AM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a snow squall along a line from 7 miles southwest of Leader to near White Ranch Open Space, or along a line from 35 miles southwest of Fort Morgan to 22 miles west of Denver, moving south at 30 mph. Locations impacted include... Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Thornton, Arvada, Westminster, Centennial, Boulder, Broomfield, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Commerce City, Parker, Littleton, Northglenn, Brighton, Englewood and Wheat Ridge. Visibilities will drop quickly to less than a quarter of a mile in this snow squall. Interstate 25, Interstate 70, C470 and E470.
INSTRUCTION: Monitor the weather situation closely and be alert for threatening weather conditions. Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this snow squall. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads are likely to lead to accidents. Consider delaying travel until the squall passes your location.

Graupel is a form of precipitation that is created by atmospheric conditions
which cause supercooled water droplets to contact snow crystals and freeze to
their surface.
Sometimes known as soft hail or snow pellets, graupel is delicate and easily
destroyed by touch. Whereas hail usually falls during severe weather, graupel
doesn't require such conditions to form, and can form in mild precipitation
similar to situations which produce snowfall.

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.
