Big Sioux River near Estelline affecting Brookings and Hamlin Counties. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring. * WHERE...Big Sioux River near Estelline. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 1645.5 feet, widespread flooding of agricultural lands begins. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 10:00 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 1644.8 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 10:00 AM CDT Saturday was 1645.1 feet. - Forecast...No forecast is available for this location. - Flood stage is 1644.0 feet. - Stay up to date with the latest river observations and forecasts at: www.water.noaa.gov

INSTRUCTION: Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Freezing rain is a condition where precipitation which has fallen in the form of water droplets reaches temperatures which are below freezing and freezes upon coming into contact with surface objects. The result of this precipitation is a glaze of ice which can be damaging to plants and man-made structures. A severe onset of freezing rain which results in a very thick glaze of ice is known as an ice storm.

As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.
