AREAS AFFECTED: Albemarle, VA; Greene, VA
DESCRIPTION: FFWLWX The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... North Central Albemarle County in central Virginia... South Central Greene County in central Virginia... * Until 1145 PM EDT. * At 850 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Charlottesville... Westmoreland... Hollymead... Ruckersville... Advance Mills... Earlysville... Carrsbrook... Amicus... This includes the following Flood Prone Roads... Route 29 near The North Fork of The Rivanna River, Route 643 near The South Fork of The Rivanna River, Advance Mills Road and and Route 617 and Celt Road near Amicus Road.
INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Evaporation is the transformation of liquid into gas, and it happens because
molecules are excited by the application of energy and turn into vapor.
In order for water to evaporate it has to be on the surface of a body of water.

A fractus cloud (scud) is a fragmented, tattered cloud which has
likely been sheared off of another cloud. They are accessory clouds, meaning they
develop from parent clouds, and are named in a way which describes the original
cloud which contained them.
Fractus clouds which have originated from cumulus clouds are referred to as
cumulus fractus, while fractus clouds which have originated from stratus clouds
are referred to as stratus fractus. Under certain conditions a fractus cloud might
merge with another cloud, or develop into a cumulus cloud, but usually a
fractus cloud seen by itself will dissipate rapidly.
They are often observed on the leading and trailing edges of storm clouds,
and are a display of wind activity.
