DESCRIPTION: SVRGSP The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Southwestern Mecklenburg County in the Piedmont of North Carolina... Northeastern York County in Upstate South Carolina... * Until 715 PM EDT. * At 648 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 10 miles northwest of Indian Land to 6 miles northeast of Rock Hill, moving west at 10 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines. * Locations impacted include... Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Steele Creek, Carowinds, Lake Wylie, Southwest Charlotte, and Rock Hill.
INSTRUCTION: For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. If on or near Lake Wylie, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm. Evaporation is the transformation of liquid into gas, and it happens because
molecules are excited by the application of energy and turn into vapor.
In order for water to evaporate it has to be on the surface of a body of water.

A fractus cloud (scud) is a fragmented, tattered cloud which has
likely been sheared off of another cloud. They are accessory clouds, meaning they
develop from parent clouds, and are named in a way which describes the original
cloud which contained them.
Fractus clouds which have originated from cumulus clouds are referred to as
cumulus fractus, while fractus clouds which have originated from stratus clouds
are referred to as stratus fractus. Under certain conditions a fractus cloud might
merge with another cloud, or develop into a cumulus cloud, but usually a
fractus cloud seen by itself will dissipate rapidly.
They are often observed on the leading and trailing edges of storm clouds,
and are a display of wind activity.
