AREAS AFFECTED: Greeley, NE; Valley, NE

DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central Nebraska, including the following counties, Greeley and Valley. * WHEN...Until 800 AM CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1205 AM CDT, radar estimates that 2 to 4 inches fell across the warned area from earlier thunderstorms. Emergency management reports water from an area canal was causing water to rise onto part of the Highway 11 and Highway 22 junction area south of North Loup. Some area rural roads in the North Loup and Davis Creek Wildlife Management areas were also affected by water. - No additional rainfall is expected tonight. - Some locations that may experience flooding include... Scotia, North Loup, and rural portions of southeast Valley and southwest Greeley counties. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Fractus Clouds Next Topic: Freezing Rain

A fractus cloud (scud) is a fragmented, tattered cloud which has likely been sheared off of another cloud. They are accessory clouds, meaning they develop from parent clouds, and are named in a way which describes the original cloud which contained them.

Fractus clouds which have originated from cumulus clouds are referred to as cumulus fractus, while fractus clouds which have originated from stratus clouds are referred to as stratus fractus. Under certain conditions a fractus cloud might merge with another cloud, or develop into a cumulus cloud, but usually a fractus cloud seen by itself will dissipate rapidly.

They are often observed on the leading and trailing edges of storm clouds, and are a display of wind activity.
