Special Weather Statement issued September 6 at 12:54AM CDT by NWS Shreveport LA
AREAS AFFECTED: Franklin; Camp; Wood; Upshur; Smith
DESCRIPTION: At 1254 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking an area of strong thunderstorms extending from 28 miles northwest of Golden to 25 miles southwest of Golden, or extending from 34 miles west of Winnsboro to 24 miles southwest of Mineola, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. The strong thunderstorms will be near... Golden around 125 AM CDT. Mineola around 130 AM CDT. Quitman around 135 AM CDT. Lindale, Hoard, Hainesville, Tyler and Pleasant Grove around 140 AM CDT. Other locations impacted by these strong thunderstorms include Alba, Carroll, Forest Hill and Yantis.
INSTRUCTION: This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.

Cirrostratus clouds are high, thin clouds that form above
20,000 feet and are made mostly of ice crystals. They sometimes look like giant
feathers, horse tails, or curls of hair in the sky.
These clouds are pushed by the jet stream and can move at high speeds reaching
100 mph.
