AREAS AFFECTED: McPherson, KS; Reno, KS; Rice, KS
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of Central and South Central Kansas, including the following counties, in Central Kansas, McPherson and Rice. In South Central Kansas, Reno. * WHEN...Until 1030 AM CDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1037 AM CDT, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain in the warned area due to thunderstorms from the previous day. Flooding is ongoing. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hutchinson, Mcpherson, Lyons, South Hutchinson, Sterling, Inman, Buhler, Haven, Nickerson, Galva, Little River, Chase, Arlington, Partridge, Alden, Windom, Abbyville, Raymond, Yoder and Willowbrook.
INSTRUCTION: Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

A mammatus cloud is a cloud with a unique feature which resembles
a web of pouches hanging along the base of the cloud.
In the United States, mammatus clouds tend to form in the warmer months, commonly
in the Midwest and eastern regions.
While they usually form at the bottom of a cumulonimbis cloud, they can also form
under altostratus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds. Mammatus clouds
warn that severe weather is close.

Precipitation can refer to many different forms of water that
may fall from clouds. Precipitation occurs after a cloud has become saturated to
the point where its water particles are more dense than the air below the cloud.
In most cases, precipitation will reach the ground, but it is not uncommon for
precipitation to evaporate before it reaches the earth's surface.
When precipitation evaporates before it contacts the ground it is called Virga.
Graupel, hail, sleet, rain, drizzle, and snow are forms of precipitation, but fog
and mist are not considered precipitation because the water vapor which
constitutes them isn't dense enough to fall to the ground.
