AREAS AFFECTED: Cochise, AZ; Santa Cruz, AZ
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of Southeast Arizona, including the following counties, southern Cochise and northeastern Santa Cruz. * WHEN...Until 800 PM MST. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry washes. Dangerous flows over low-water crossings. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 452 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause small stream flooding, particularly across northeast Santa Cruz and southwest Cochise county. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Sierra Vista, Douglas, Bisbee, Hereford, Whetstone, Huachuca City, St. David, Tombstone, Naco, Sonoita, Dragoon, Elgin, Pearce-Sunsites, Bisbee-Douglas Airport, Fort Huachuca, Kartchner Caverns State Park, Parker Canyon Lake, Chiricahua National Monument, Palominas and Pirtleville. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
