AREAS AFFECTED: Madison, IL; St. Clair, IL
DESCRIPTION: At 525 PM CDT, trained weather spotters reported flash flooding in Lebanon due to very heavy rainfall. Over 4 inches of rain has fallen. Although rain is coming to an end, it will take some time for flood waters to recede. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Trained spotters reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Belleville, O'Fallon, East St. Louis, Collinsville, Fairview Heights, Swansea, Shiloh, Troy, Maryville, Mascoutah, Pontoon Beach, Centreville, Lebanon, Caseyville, Washington Park, New Baden, Scott AFB, Alorton, St. Jacob and Summerfield. This includes Interstate 64 in Illinois between exits 9 and 27.
INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.

Precipitation in the form of water droplets is called rain.
