DESCRIPTION: ...Critical Fire Weather on Saturday... .Dry conditions, above normal temperatures and strengthening southerly flow on the eastern periphery of a deepening lee trough will foster critical fire weather across the majority of the region on Saturday. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 001 Cheyenne KS, 002 Rawlins, 003 Decatur, 004 Norton, 013 Sherman, 014 Thomas, 015 Sheridan, 016 Graham, 027 Wallace, 028 Logan, 029 Gove, 041 Greeley, 042 Wichita, 079 Dundy, 080 Hitchcock, 081 Red Willow, 253 Kit Carson and 254 Cheyenne CO. * TIMING...From 10 AM MDT /11 AM CDT/ to 9 PM MDT /10 PM CDT/ Saturday. * WINDS...South 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 13 percent. * IMPACTS...Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control.

A contrail is an artificial cloud, created by the passing of an aircraft.

Contrails form because water vapor in the exhaust of aircraft engines is suspended in the air under certain temperatures and humidity conditions. These contrails are called exhaust contrails.

Another type of contrail can form due to a temporary reduction in air pressure moving over the plane's surface, causing condensation. These are called aerodynamic contrails.

When you can see your breath on a cold day, it is also because of condensation. The reason contrails last longer than the condensation from your breath is because the water in contrails freezes into ice particles.
