DESCRIPTION: FFWMAF The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... East Central Culberson County in southwestern Texas... Central Jeff Davis County in southwestern Texas... Southwestern Reeves County in southwestern Texas... * Until 300 AM CDT /200 AM MDT/. * At 1053 PM CDT /953 PM MDT/, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen over the past few hours with additional heavy rainfall possible over the next 1 to 2 hours. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Kent, Fort Davis, Balmorhea, Balmorhea State Park, McDonald Observatory, Balmorhea Lake, Davis Mountains State Park, Saragosa, Bloys Camp, Buffalo Trail Scout Camp, Black Mountain, Toyahvale, Star Mountain and Indian Lodge.
INSTRUCTION: Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.

Graupel is a form of precipitation that is created by atmospheric conditions
which cause supercooled water droplets to contact snow crystals and freeze to
their surface.
Sometimes known as soft hail or snow pellets, graupel is delicate and easily
destroyed by touch. Whereas hail usually falls during severe weather, graupel
doesn't require such conditions to form, and can form in mild precipitation
similar to situations which produce snowfall.

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.
