AREAS AFFECTED: Cuyahoga; Geauga
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible in the higher terrain of the snowbelt. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph this evening and tonight. * WHERE...Cuyahoga and Geauga Counties. * WHEN...From 7 AM this morning to 1 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow can reduce visibility this evening and tonight. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A period of light to moderate snow is expected this morning, with snow covered roads possible during and after the morning commute. After a few hours of dry weather this afternoon, snow showers and squalls, wind gusts up to 45 mph, and falling temperatures will lead to blowing and drifting snow and hazardous road conditions this evening.
INSTRUCTION: Slow down and use caution while traveling. The Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all travel restrictions and delay unnecessary travel. A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
