DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 4 above expected. For the Wind Advisory, northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 1 below possible. * WHERE...In North Carolina, Chowan, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, and Perquimans Counties. In Virginia, Southampton County. * WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 6 AM to 10 PM EST Saturday. For the Wind Advisory, from 8 AM to 9 PM EST Saturday. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from Saturday evening through Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

INSTRUCTION: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind. As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.

Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, aircrafts, and man-made structures, despite the fact that the duration is usually less than ten minutes.

A mammatus cloud is a cloud with a unique feature which resembles a web of pouches hanging along the base of the cloud.

In the United States, mammatus clouds tend to form in the warmer months, commonly in the Midwest and eastern regions.

While they usually form at the bottom of a cumulonimbis cloud, they can also form under altostratus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds. Mammatus clouds warn that severe weather is close.
