Flood Warning issued July 21 at 10:45PM CDT until July 22 at 10:45AM CDT by NWS Wichita KS
AREAS AFFECTED: McPherson, KS; Saline, KS
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall from slow moving thunderstorms is expected. * WHERE...A portion of Central Kansas, including the following counties, McPherson and Saline. * WHEN...Until 1045 AM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1045 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Salina, Mcpherson, Galva, Canton, Assaria, Gypsum, Bridgeport, Roxbury and Mcpherson Airport.
INSTRUCTION: Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.

Precipitation in the form of water droplets is called rain.

an observable effect on rainfall, due to an effect called the urban heat island.
Compared to upwind, monthly rainfall between twenty and forty miles downwind of
cities is 30% greater.
